Portsmouth, New Hampshire

The Seacoast Area of New Hampshire encompasses the coastal towns of Portsmouth, Rye, New Castle, North Hampton, Hampton, and Hampton Falls, as well as the adjacent inland towns. Through the diligent efforts of local planning boards, the area retains its rural atmosphere, while boasting a thriving commercial base. The New Hampshire Seacoast is served by four airports: Logan Airport at Boston, MA (1 hour south); Manchester Airport, (40 minutes west); Portland, ME (1 hour north); and our newest airport at Pease, Portsmouth.

Major roadways include Route 95, Route 1, and Route 101, which has recently been upgraded to a four lane thoroughfare, rendering easier access to the inland towns of Epping, Kingston, Brentwood and Manchester.   Routes 4 and 16 connect the area with the spectacular scenery of the New Hampshire White Mountains, known for its year-round outdoor activities (hiking, water sports, skiing). The White Mountains are perhaps best-known for the glorious array of foliage in the fall.

The Seacoast Area is noted for its excellent schools, and high academic standards in both public and private schools. It is home to the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy, and to the University of New Hampshire in Durham, best known perhaps for its excellent Whittemore School of Business & Economics, and for the College of Life Sciences & Agriculture.

Culturally, Portsmouth boasts a host of theatres, some small and intimate, others capable of hosting spectacular shows; the campus of the University of New Hampshire has several theatres, and is renowned  for its series of concerts; and if you feel a little more adventurous, Boston, with its variety of theatres and concert halls is only one hour away. Throughout the Seacoast Area, a host of restaurants abound, many of which serve the seafood for which the area is so well known, while others are famed for their international flavors.
